Homosexuality - The Progressive Mirage

I was born in 1992. While I was growing up, I used to watch a lot of Hollywood movies. Plenty of which had promoted somewhat explicit sexual scenes between the opposite genders. I still remember how my mother used to instruct me to change the channel whenever something sexual was about to come up. She did that after she lost a round of the battle against TV and its influence. Back then, I do not even remember seeing something about homosexuality. Even when I started using the Internet and browsing YouTube.

Now, however, hit songs which are listened to by millions of people promote homosexuality like there is no tomorrow. The news is talking about it. Rights! Freedom! Rights! All day long I can hear and read these words everywhere. You even have gay Imams these days!

In the name of ‘progressive thinking’ some Muslims have decided to agree to homosexuality as a given right. Not the right of showing them respect and dealing with them justly, this is something that no one disagrees about, but a right that entitles homosexuals to get married from one another. It’s a legislative kind of right. So let’s ask: my legislation or Allah’s?

Many of us got affected by this poison (supporting gay marriage).  A poison which lead many Muslims to a point where they would rather go for man’s decree rather than God’s, all in the name of ‘progressive thinking’ and ‘human rights’. It is a matter of vital importance.

Bear in mind that the people of Prophet Lut عليه السلام were the first to commit such a sin. Everyone one knows, even non-Muslims, what their punishment was. Now, is it really that difficult to draw a lesson from their story? Are we too blind to see it? Even though his wife did not commit the sin, she was part of them by not speaking against it and was punished along-with them.

Let me ask this, and please humor me, can you imagine Prophet Lut عليه السلام saying to Allah the following:

“Oh, Allah! These are my people. This is just how they are, and we should embrace them. Oh, Allah! I ask of you to alter the mission I was sent for (which is to warn them and ask them to stop this sin and repent to Allah). Oh, Allah! Would it be possible if You were to make this sin a virtue by giving them the right to marry one another?”

Doesn’t Allah know best? What is the whole purpose of the story if were to come nowadays to say “they should be given the right to get married. It’s human rights!” It is as if we doubt that Allah’s judgment. It is as if we are saying “God knows nothing about human rights” –exalted is He.

Allah’s Messengers are the best of people that Allah has created. I’m pretty sure they were aware that just as much as Allah is the Creator, He is also the Legislator.

Counter-arguments to the ‘right’ of homosexuals to get married, or even the so-called right to have sexual relations with the same gender, have been given ages ago. If Allah called it a great sin, why dare to legislate it? If one was to say “no, it’s not me who does that, it’s the courts.” I would say that if I were to support the killing of someone, it is as if I pulled the trigger myself.

I swear by Allah Almighty, it’s neither the Quran nor the Sunnah that are the issue, rather, it is our ignorance and weak trust in Allah’s wisdom.

One last thing to be pointed out, it is utterly distasteful to make that famous false analogy between Allah’s legislation and the wrong doings of people who oppress gays because they’re gays. We are all to treat all human beings with utmost respect, it is nothing new.

Homosexuality is a sin that is punishable by Islamic Law. But does this fact give people right to abuse gays? Absolutely not. The punishment is the judgment of the crime committed, and neither it is a degradation of the sinner nor is it an authorization to oppress, even those who publicly announce that they are gay.

I think the world has reached a dangerous stage. We watch, but don’t listen. We read, but don’t understand. It’s not like we read anyway, as we have become social media skimmers. People are deviating more and more from the truth and Allah’s path, the path of the One we should worship and thank for having honored us enough by creating us. Do we ever stop and think of how amazing the gift of life is? To be alive? We owe so much to Allah, and yet we pay Him too little. What a Shame!

I’ll end this by asking of you, dear Muslim supporter of gay marriage, to ponder upon the following verses:

The people of Lut rejected the messengers. When their brother Lut said to them: “Will you not guard (against evil)?I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. So fear Allah and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds.

Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing”

They said: “If you desist not, O Lut! You shall surely be of those who are expelled.”

He said: “I do detest your doings. O my Lord! Deliver me and my family from such things as they do!”

So We delivered him and his family, all except an old woman who lingered behind. But the rest We destroyed utterly. And We rained down upon them a rain, and evil was the rain on those warned. Verily in this is a Sign, but most of them do not believe.” [Surah Ash-Shu’ara 160 – 174]
